Ciclopirox Topical is an antifungal medication used for the treatment of fungal skin and nail infections.
Indications
- Fungal skin infections
- Fungal nail infections (Onychomycosis)
- Seborrheic dermatitis
Pharmacology
Ciclopirox has a wide spectrum of antifungal activity and some antibacterial activity. Inhibits most Candida, Epidermophyton, Microsporum, Trichophyton species and M. furfur by inhibiting transport of essential elements in fungal cells, thus disrupting DNA, RNA and protein synthesis.
Dosage
Adult Dose:

Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Application site itching
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Skin redness
Use in pregnancy
[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Ciclopirox Topical is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies. Pregnancy Category B.
Pregnancy Category: B — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
- For external use only.
- Apply in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.
- Cover the affected and surrounding skin areas and rub in gently.
- Do not apply more often or use longer than directed (may increase risk of side effects).
- Avoid getting it in your eyes, ears, nose or mouth. If this happens, rinse with water immediately.
- Avoid use of nail varnishes and artificial nails during treatment.
- Do not share your nail-filer to prevent spread of infection.
Overdose effects
