At a glance
Indacaterol Maleate is used for long-term maintenance bronchodilator treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with COPD.
Indications
- Long-term maintenance bronchodilator treatment of airflow obstruction in COPD patients (including chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema)
Pharmacology
Indacaterol is a long-acting β2-adrenergic agonist that stimulates intracellular adenyl cyclase, catalyzing conversion of ATP to cyclic AMP. Increased cyclic AMP levels cause relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle. When inhaled, indacaterol acts locally in the lung as a bronchodilator. It is more than 24-fold more potent at beta2-receptors compared to beta1-receptors.
