At a glance
Secukinumab is a fully human IgG1/κ monoclonal antibody that selectively inhibits IL-17A. It is used for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, active psoriatic arthritis, and active ankylosing spondylitis.
Indications
- Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis (candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy)
- Moderate-to-severe scalp psoriasis
- Active psoriatic arthritis (PsA)
- Active ankylosing spondylitis (AS)
Pharmacology
Secukinumab selectively binds to and inhibits IL-17A, a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by Th17 cells, mast cells, neutrophils, and dendritic cells. IL-17A inhibition reduces inflammatory cell activation, cytokine release, and tissue damage, improving symptoms in psoriasis and inflammatory arthritis.
