Description

Deferoxamine is a medicine used in the treatment of chronic iron overload caused due to frequent blood transfusion. It helps in removing the excess iron from the body and reduces the risk of it causing organ damage. Deferoxamine is generally administered by a healthcare professional. You should not self-administer this medicine. Using of Deferoxamine may cause few side effects such as flushing (a sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), rash, decreased blood pressure and abdominal pain. If the side effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Deferoxamine traps and removes excess iron which is then excreted mainly in the stools. This reduces the risk of organ damage.
