Indications
- Iron, Zinc and Folic Acid Deficiency: Used for supplementation of iron, zinc and folic acid.
Dosage
Adult Dose: 1-2 capsules daily.
Elderly: 1 capsule daily (2 capsules in severe cases).
Child (Over 1 year): 1 capsule daily (capsule may be opened and pellets mixed with soft cool food, do not chew).
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Dark stools (usual during iron therapy)
- Nausea
- Anorexia
- Vomiting
- Discomfort
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Allergic reactions (rare)
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Care should be taken in patients who may develop iron overload (hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia or red cell aplasia).
- Iron and zinc chelate with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired.
- Absorption of iron may be impaired by penicillamine and antacids.
- In patients with renal failure, a risk of zinc accumulation could exist.
