Simethicone is an antiflatulent used to relieve gas, bloating, fullness, and windy colic. It works by changing the surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing easier passage and elimination of gas.

Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- 40-125 mg (0.6-1.9 ml drops) 4 times daily; max 500 mg/day
- OR 1-3 chewable tablets 4 times daily; max 500 mg/day (12 tablets)
Pediatric Dose (Oral):
- >12 years: 40-80 mg (0.6-1.2 ml) 4 times daily; max 500 mg/day
- 2-12 years: 40 mg (0.6 ml) 4 times daily
- <2 years: 20 mg (0.3 ml) 4 times daily; max 240 mg/day
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Physiologically inert; no adverse effects reported after oral ingestion
- Loose stools (rare)
Precautions & warnings
- Do not exceed 12 doses per day except under medical supervision
