Aluminium Oxide + Magnesium Hydroxide is a combination antacid used to neutralize excess stomach acid and treat hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, gastritis, and heartburn.
Indications
Hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, gastritis, heartburn, sour stomach, dyspepsia, flatulence, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, stomach distension.
Dosage
Tablet: Chew 1-2 tablets after meals and at bedtime as needed (up to 4 times a day). Do not take more than 16 tablets in 24 hours.
Side effects
Common side effects: Diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting.
With long-term use: Alkaluria (may predispose to nephrolithiasis by forming calcium phosphate precipitation), hypophosphataemia (with prolonged use).
Serious (rare): Aluminium intoxication (in chronic renal failure), hypermagnesaemia (in renal disease).
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in chronic renal impairment (risk of aluminium accumulation)
- Caution in low phosphate diets
- Avoid long-term use
- Maintain 2 hour gap with other medications (to avoid absorption interference)
- Avoid use in the first trimester of pregnancy
- Caution during lactation
