Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production. It is used for acid-related diseases such as heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Indications
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer
- Acid-related dyspepsia
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- NSAID-induced ulcer prevention
- H. pylori eradication (in combination with antibiotics)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- GERD: 15-30 mg once daily in the morning for 4-8 weeks
- Duodenal ulcer: 30 mg once daily in the morning for 4 weeks; Maintenance: 15 mg/day
- Gastric ulcer: 30 mg once daily for 8 weeks
- Zollinger-Ellison: 60 mg once daily; adjust as needed (>120 mg/day in 2 divided doses)
- NSAID-induced ulcer prevention: 15-30 mg once daily
- H. pylori eradication: 30 mg twice daily + clarithromycin + amoxicillin/metronidazole for 1 week
Children (GERD/Erosive Esophagitis): 1-11 years: 15-30 mg once daily for up to 12 weeks; 12-17 years: 15-30 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks

Precautions & warnings
- Rule out gastric malignancy before treatment
- Long-term use may lead to bone loss and magnesium deficiency
- Take calcium and magnesium supplements
- Dose adjustment needed in severe liver disease (max 30 mg/day)
- Inform your doctor if you experience watery diarrhea, fever, or abdominal pain
