At a glance

Sertaconazole Topical is an imidazole antifungal cream used for the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot) and other topical fungal infections. It kills fungi by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cell membrane.

Indications
  • Interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot) caused by Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum
  • Other topical fungal infections (≥12 years, immunocompetent)
Pharmacology

Sertaconazole inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-mediated 14α-lanosterol demethylase, preventing ergosterol synthesis. Ergosterol is essential for fungal cell membrane integrity; its deficiency increases membrane permeability and causes fungal cell death.
