Timolol Maleate 0.25% Eye Drop is a beta-blocker used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. It reduces eye pressure by decreasing aqueous humor production.
Indications
- Ocular hypertension
- Chronic open-angle glaucoma
- Aphakic and secondary glaucoma
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Start: 1 drop of 0.25% solution in affected eye(s) twice daily
- If needed, increase to 0.5% solution twice daily
- Once controlled, may reduce to once daily
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Eye burning, stinging
- Eye irritation, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, keratitis
- Visual disturbances
Systemic (Rare):
- Bradycardia, arrhythmia, hypotension
- Bronchospasm, dyspnea
- Headache, dizziness, depression, fatigue
Precautions & warnings
- Do not use in asthma, severe COPD, or serious heart conditions
- Inform doctor if you have coronary heart disease, heart failure, diabetes, thyroid problems, liver or kidney disease
- Do not stop abruptly (may cause angina or MI)
- Visual disturbances may affect driving
- Use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle
