Indications
Used to lower raised intraocular pressure in glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

Mechanism of action
Reduces aqueous humour production in the eye, lowering intraocular pressure.
Dosage
1 drop in the affected eye twice daily (0.5%); a physician may prescribe 0.25%.
Administration
After instilling, press the inner corner of the eye for 1–2 minutes to reduce systemic absorption. Remove contact lenses first.
Missed dose
Instil when remembered; skip if the next dose is near.
Side effects
Eye stinging/redness, blurred vision; systemic: slow heart rate, breathing difficulty.
Precautions & warnings
Caution in asthma/COPD, heart disease and diabetes.
Contraindications
Asthma/severe COPD, marked bradycardia, heart block, heart failure.
Drug interactions
Oral beta-blockers, calcium-channel blockers, digoxin.
Food interactions
Not applicable (eye drops).
