Prof. Dr. Manabendra Biswas

Professor Dr. Manabendra Biswas is a renowned Thoracic and Esophageal surgeon of Bangladesh. He has been working as Head of the department of Thoracic surgery in National Institute of Diseases of the Chest & Hospital, Mohakhali, Dhaka for years together. He was born in Magura on 25th December 1963. He passed SSC from Kashba Majail A H high school, Pangsha, Rajbari and HSC from Govt. Rajendra College, Faridpur with distinction. He started studying MBBS in Dhaka Medical College in 1981 (K-38), and was awarded Govt scholarship to study in Russia, USSR. He obtained his MD degree (with honors and award) from Rostov State Medical Institute, Russia, USSR in 1988. After returning to Bangladesh, he obtained his MS degree in Thoracic surgery from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in 2004. He is the first doctor having MS in thoracic surgery in this country. Professor Biswas is the vice president of Bangladesh Association for Thoracic Surgery (BATS), member of European Association of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), life member of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Chest & Heart Association of Bangladesh, Asthma Association of Bangladesh & Teachers Association of NIDCH, society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB). As he has been working in the department of Thoracic surgery, NIDCH for about twenty years he has gathered enormous experience in major thoracic and esophageal operations & procedures. He believes that “Work is Worship” & likes to serve the diseased people of this country with utmost effort. Professor Biswas has around 15 publications in his credit in national and international journals and has participated in various national and international conferences & workshops home and abroad. He is also involved in teaching and training of national and international fellows in NIDCH, mentoring post-graduate students (MS thoracic surgery, FCPS thoracic surgery, MS, Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery) and other specialities and supervising their thesis. He is also examiner of post graduate courses (MS) of BSMMU and Dhaka University.
