Prof. Dr. Md. Kabirul Islam is a senior Pediatric surgeon of the country with experience of more than 30 years in the field. He is the first qualified Pediatric Surgeon in Bangladesh having MS. in Pediatric Surgery degree. Subsequently, he obtained Fellowship from ‘International College of Surgeons’ (FICS), USA in Pediatric Surgery and also FRCS from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow ,UK. Graduating from Chittagong Medical College, Prof. Islam worked in Dhaka Shishu hospital at the beginning of his career. He was the Head of Pediatric Surgery in Dhaka Medical College and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College from 1995 to 2007. He attained advanced training on Pediatric Urology from prestigious ‘The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children’ in London, UK and also on Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery from Bangalore, India. Prof. Islam has more than 45 publications in international and national medical journals and books. He was the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Journal of Surgical Science’ the official publication of ‘The Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh’. He attended a number of national and international workshops, seminars, and symposiums to enrich his decision making capacity, operative skills and care giving attitude. Prof. Islam is the winner of the prestigious ‘Asir Memorial Gold Medal’ from the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh in 2011 for his work on Oesophageal Atresia correction in Square Hospital. He has special interest in Neonatal, Laparoscopic and Hypospadias Surgery.
