Professor Dr. A.K.M. Manzurul Alam

Professor Dr. A.K.M. Manzurul Alam was born in Bangladesh in 1969. He received his MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1994. Then he received his internship training from Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, Dhaka in 1995. He received his post-Graduation in MS Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and achieved the highest mark in 2006. He also achieved Director Generals Award for Best Academic Performance in the 20th BCS Health Cadre Training in 2009. Further he completed his Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) degree in 2020 from USA and completed his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 2021 successfully. Prof. Manzurul Alam was trained in General Surgery at BSMMU in 1997 & then at BIRDEM Hospital, Dhaka in 1999. He also took casualty training from Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, Dhaka in 2002. He was trained in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases & Hospital (NICVD) Dhaka in 2006. He also had training experience as Assistant Professor Current Charge at NICVD for over 6 years (2006-2011). Prof. Manzurul Alam has worked with NICVD for over 15 years in various capacities and lastly held the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery. He has gathered a vast experience in Cardiac Surgery, with more than 2000 beating heart surgery, more than 1000 heart valve surgery & more than 1000 congenital heart surgery successfully. He was interested in public health, sincerely involved, and researched various topics. He has around 30 publications in his credit. He also achieved Chancellor Award from the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the recognition of outstanding result in HSC examination. He also has 16 years of teaching experience in MS cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery Final part students ICU, OT & Practical classes and he is now working as a guide of Final Part MS (Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery) students as a Professor. He attended Cardiac Surgery Conferences & Scientific sessions in more than 30 countries all over the World. He also attended WHO (World Health Organization) fellowship Training in Delhi Escorts Hospital, Delhi, India in 2013. Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Manzurul Alam obtained membership in Cardiac Surgeons Society of Bangladesh (CSSB) as the vice president. He is also a member of the Bangladesh Association of Cardiac, Vascular & Thoracic Surgeons (BACVTS). Moreover, He obtained lifetime membership from the Bangladesh Cardiac Society and Indian Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (IACTS) respectively.
