Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin Ahmed

Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin Ahmed is one of the most distinguished Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in Bangladesh, with decades of pioneering experience in complex cardiac care. He earned his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1986 and went on to become the first specialist in Bangladesh to receive an MS degree in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in 1990.

Throughout his highly distinguished career, Dr. Nasir has served as the Former Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Dhaka. A true pioneer in his field, he was actively involved in the country's early open-heart surgery initiatives and has successfully performed over 6,000 open-heart procedures—including more than 1,000 beating-heart bypass surgeries—and 5,000 vascular procedures. Under his supervision, several complex surgeries were performed for the first time in Bangladesh, including specialized leaflet valve replacements and advanced beating-heart bypass techniques. He currently serves as the full-time Chief Cardiac Surgeon at Universal Medical College & Hospital (UMCH), Dhaka.
