Aminocaproic Acid

Hemostatic agent that inhibits fibrinolysis by blocking plasminogen activators, reducing blood loss in surgeries like CABG.

Used to treat excessive postoperative bleeding, reduce blood loss in cardiac surgery, and manage thrombolytic agent overdose.

Fibrinolysis Inhibitor

Inhibits plasminogen activators and exhibits antiplasmin activity to prevent blood clot breakdown.

Blocks the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, stabilizing fibrin clots.

Average dose 8-16 g/day divided every 4-6 hours; up to 20-25 g in 24 hours for severe cases. IV infusion guidelines apply.

Can be given orally or intravenously with suitable dilution.

Take or administer as scheduled.

Mild muscle pain, weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nasal congestion, vision changes, injection site reactions.

Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 18 years.

Active intravascular clotting process or DIC without concomitant heparin.

Use with caution alongside other hemostatic or thrombolytic agents.

Can be taken with or without food; take with food to prevent GI upset.

Pregnancy Category C. Use only if clearly needed.

Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.

Consult physician during lactation.

Not established in pediatric patients under 18.

Use with caution under medical supervision.

Cleared renally; use with monitoring in renal or hepatic impairment.

Supportive management.

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Suspension below 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
