Indications
Used to treat excessive postoperative bleeding, reduce blood loss in cardiac surgery, and manage thrombolytic agent overdose.
Dosage
Average dose 8-16 g/day divided every 4-6 hours; up to 20-25 g in 24 hours for severe cases. IV infusion guidelines apply.
Side effects
Mild muscle pain, weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nasal congestion, vision changes, injection site reactions.
Precautions & warnings
Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 18 years.
