Besifloxacin 0.6% Eye prep

Besifloxacin 0.6% Eye prep is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections. It works by inhibiting the bacterial enzyme DNA-gyrase, which prevents bacterial cell division and repair, leading to bacterial death.

This medicine is for external use only. The recommended dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days. The same dose applies to children 1 year of age and older.

Common side effects include burning eyes and eye discomfort. Temporary blurred vision may occur after application.

• Bacterial eye infections

Besifloxacin is a bactericidal fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits DNA-gyrase (a topoisomerase) in susceptible organisms, which in turn inhibits cell division and leads to bacterial death.

Besifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA-gyrase enzyme, preventing DNA replication and cell division, resulting in bacterial death.

Adults: 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.

Children (1 year and older): 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.

Children (under 1 year): Safety and efficacy have not been established.

For ophthalmic use only. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid. Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop. Maintain 5-10 minutes gap with other eye drops.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Safety and efficacy in children under 1 year have not been established. For patients 1 year and older, adult dosage applies.

No dose adjustment needed for elderly patients.

Systemic absorption with topical ophthalmic application is minimal, so no dosage adjustment is needed for renal or hepatic impairment.

Overuse may cause eye irritation. Consult a doctor if symptoms occur.

Store at 15-25°C. Protect from light. Use within 4 weeks after opening. Keep out of reach of children.
