Betamethasone + Lidocaine Hydrochloride + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (Rectal prep)

Betamethasone 0.05% + Lidocaine Hydrochloride 2.5%+ Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 0.1% (Rectal prep) is a combination preparation used for the relief of discomfort, pain, itchiness, and irritation around the anus and for the treatment of haemorrhoids (piles). This preparation contains three active ingredients that work synergistically.

Betamethasone is a corticosteroid with mainly glucocorticoid activity. It prevents and controls inflammation by controlling the rate of protein synthesis, depressing the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and fibroblasts, and reversing capillary permeability and lysosomal stabilisation. Lidocaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that reversibly blocks the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by interfering with the flux of sodium ions through the neuronal membrane. Phenylephrine is an alpha adrenergic agonist that elicits localized vasoconstriction and decreases inflammation.

Betamethasone reduces inflammation and itching, Lidocaine provides local pain relief, and Phenylephrine causes vasoconstriction to reduce swelling and bleeding. Together, they effectively relieve haemorrhoid symptoms.

Adults: Apply to the perianal region or rectally. May apply up to 2-4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning, or after bowel movement that may exacerbate hemorrhoid(s).

For external rectal or perianal application only. Gently clean the affected area before use. Apply a small amount of ointment and massage gently. Wash hands after application.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.

• Topical application to the eye: Corneal ulcers, raised IOP and reduced visual acuity
• Intradermal injection: Local hypopigmentation of deeply pigmented skin
• Intra-articular injection: Joint damage, fibrosis, especially in load bearing joints

• Caution in uncontrolled diabetes, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychosis, psychoneurosis
• Caution in congestive heart failure, hypertension, epilepsy, chronic renal failure, elderly patients
• Regular monitoring required for patients on long-term therapy
• Withdraw gradually
• Caution in glaucoma, hypothyroidism, cirrhosis, ocular herpes simplex, ulcerative colitis
• Caution during pregnancy and lactation

• Hypersensitivity to betamethasone, lidocaine, phenylephrine, or any component
• Systemic fungal or acute infections

No significant drug interactions are known with other topical medications.

No food-related restrictions (topical application).

Overuse may cause systemic absorption and corticosteroid side effects. Consult a doctor if symptoms occur.
