Description

Calcium Phosphate + Vitamin D3 is a combination tablet used to improve bone health and supplement calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency. Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Phosphate BP 715 mg (equivalent to Elemental Calcium 250 mg) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) USP 250 IU.

Calcium is absorbed in the intestine, which then passes through the intestine to blood and is deposited into bone. Active transport through cells is dependent on Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 keeps bones healthy by increasing the absorption of calcium in the intestines. Without vitamin D3, the body can absorb only 10% to 15% of calcium from the diet.

Calcium + Vitamin D3 Combination

Pharmacology

Calcium is absorbed in the intestine, which then passes into the blood and is deposited into bone. Active transport through cells is dependent on vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 keeps bones healthy by increasing the absorption of calcium in the intestines. Without vitamin D3, the body can absorb only 10% to 15% of calcium from the diet.

Mechanism of action

Calcium is absorbed in the intestine and deposited into bone. Vitamin D3 increases calcium absorption in the intestine and regulates bone mineralization.

Dosage

Adults: 2 tablets once or twice daily (i.e., 2-4 tablets per day) with plenty of water or food, or as directed by the physician.

Contraindications
  • Increased activity of parathyroid gland

Drug interactions
  • Major interaction: IV Ceftriaxone + Calcium can cause life-threatening damage to the lungs and kidneys. Calcium should not be given intravenously within 48 hours of IV ceftriaxone.
  • Minor interaction: Calcium reduces absorption of tetracycline and fluoride preparations (allow at least 3 hours gap). Thiazide diuretics reduce renal excretion of calcium. Phenytoin, barbiturates, and glucocorticoids may induce vitamin D3 metabolism. Certain foods (spinach, cereals, milk, and derivatives) may reduce intestinal calcium uptake.
Food interactions

Spinach, cereals, milk, and dairy products may reduce calcium absorption; avoid taking calcium supplements with these foods.

Use in pregnancy
