Description

This preparation is a water-soluble antibiotic powder containing a combination of three potent antibacterial agents. Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic highly effective against gram-positive bacteria and Mycoplasma. Sulphadiazine and Trimethoprim together create a synergistic effect active against a wide range of bacteria. This combination is specially indicated when other antibiotics and chemotherapeutics fail due to resistance problems

Pharmacology

Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It is highly effective against gram-positive bacteria and Mycoplasma, and also effective against some gram-negative bacteria such as Neissaria spp. and Haemophilus spp. Sulphadiazine inhibits the biosynthesis of PABA to dihydrosulphonic acid, and Trimethoprim inhibits the biosynthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid from dihydrofolic acid. The combined action creates a synergistic effect against a wide range of bacteria

Dosage

Poultry: 0.5 to 1.0 gm per liter of drinking water for 3-5 days. The medicated water should be freshly prepared each day and birds should not have access to any other drinking water during treatment . Calves/Foals: 7.5 g per 50 kg body weight for 3-5 days. Or as directed by the registered veterinary physician . Fish: 1 g per 10 kg body weight for 3-5 days. Or as directed by the fisheries expert .

Side effects

Common side effects: No side effects observed at recommended doses . Rare side effects: No side effects observed at recommended doses. Long-term use may cause hematological reactions and crystalluria .

Precautions & warnings

Oral erythromycin should not be used in ruminants as diarrhea may occur . Medicated water should be freshly prepared each day . Treatment should be stopped before the specified withdrawal period before slaughter. Withdrawal Period: Eggs: 6 days Meat: 5 days

Contraindications

This preparation is contraindicated in animals with hypersensitivity to Erythromycin, Sulphadiazine, or Trimethoprim

Overdose effects

This drug is relatively non-toxic . Overdosage may lead to diarrhea, abdominal pain, and neurotoxicity
