Description
Famciclovir INN is an antiviral medicine. It helps in treating viral infections like herpes labialis, herpes simplex virus infections, shingles, and genital herpes infection. It prevents the multiplication of virus in human cells and therefore helps in clearing the infection.
Famciclovir INN should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Herpes Zoster (Shingles): 500 mg tid x 7 days.
- Genital Herpes (First Episode): 250 mg tid x 5 days.
- Genital Herpes (Recurrent): 125 mg bid x 5 days.
- Herpes Labialis: 1500 mg single dose OR 750 mg bid x 1 day.
Renal Dose: Dose adjustment may be needed based on CrCl.
Administration
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Famciclovir INN may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Famciclovir INN, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
