Felbinac

Felbinac is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with painful inflammatory conditions of the musculo-skeletal system such as soft tissue traumas (sprains, strains and contusions), extra-articular rheumatic or inflammatory conditions including bursitis, capsulitis, frozen shoulder, myalgia, tendonitis, tenosynovitis and tennis elbow, and relief of pain and stiffness of rheumatic or non-serious arthritic conditions.

The primary mechanism of action of Felbinac revolves around its ability to inhibit the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which play a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins.

• Soft Tissue Trauma: Used for sprains, strains and contusions.
• Extra-articular Rheumatic Conditions: Used for bursitis, capsulitis, frozen shoulder, myalgia, tendonitis, tennis elbow.
• Arthritic Conditions: Used for pain and stiffness of rheumatic or non-serious arthritis.

Topical anti-inflammatory preparations

Topical NSAID

The primary mechanism of action of Felbinac revolves around its ability to inhibit the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2. These enzymes play a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, which mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting COX enzymes, Felbinac effectively reduces the production of prostaglandins, attenuating the inflammatory response and providing relief from pain.

Felbinac inhibits COX enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, helping to relieve inflammation and pain.

Adult Dose (Topical):

• Rub 1 g gel lightly into the affected area 2 to 4 times a day.
• Total dose should not exceed 25 g a day.
• Treatment should not be extended beyond 6 weeks.

For external use only. Rub 1 g gel lightly into the affected area 2 to 4 times a day; wash hands following application (unless they are the treatment sites).

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible; however, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.

Common Side Effects:

• Local skin reactions at application site
• Redness
• Itching
• Burning sensation

Precautions:

• Do not use on broken or denuded skin.
• Do not use with occlusive dressings.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membrane.
• Total dose should not exceed 25 g daily.
• Do not extend treatment beyond 6 weeks.
• Use with caution in patients with renal, cardiac or hepatic impairment, history of peptic ulceration, inflammatory bowel disease or bleeding diathesis.
• Elderly patients are particularly susceptible to adverse effects of NSAIDs; prolonged use in elderly is not recommended.
• Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight of treated areas (photosensitivity).

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity
• Patients in whom attacks of asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis are precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Use on broken skin or denuded skin
• Use with occlusive dressings
• Use simultaneously to the same site with any other topical preparations
• Use in the presence of local infection
• Use in patients with active peptic ulceration
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Drug Interactions: Serum levels following topical application are extremely low, therefore clinical drug interactions are unlikely.

Food Interactions: No interactions with food.

Use in Pregnancy: Felbinac is suspected to cause serious birth defects during pregnancy; contraindicated in pregnancy.

Use in Lactation: Felbinac is contraindicated during breastfeeding.

Pediatric Use: Not recommended for children under 18 years (insufficient safety and efficacy information).

Geriatric Use: Use with particular caution in elderly patients; prolonged use in elderly is not recommended.

Renal Impairment: Use with caution in patients with kidney disease.

Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in patients with liver disease.

Overdose: Limited information on topical overdose; excessive use may cause skin irritation.

Storage: Keep below 30 degree C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
