Indications

Applied locally for muscle and joint pain, sprains, inflammation and soft-tissue injuries.

Therapeutic class

Topical analgesic & anti-inflammatory gel (topical NSAID)

Pharmacological class

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (topical)

Mechanism of action

Inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX), reducing prostaglandins and thereby local pain and inflammation.

Dosage

Apply a small amount of gel to the affected area 2–4 times daily; do not use for more than 2 weeks without advice.

Administration

External skin only; avoid wounds, eyes and mucous membranes. Wash hands after use.

Missed dose

Apply when remembered; do not apply extra.

Side effects

Redness, itching or mild burning at the application site.

Precautions & warnings

Caution if allergic to aspirin/NSAIDs or asthmatic; avoid large areas.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to NSAIDs; do not apply to broken skin.

Drug interactions

Systemic absorption is low with topical use; avoid excess combination with other NSAIDs.

Food interactions
