Description

Introduction: Fluticasone Furoate inhalation powder is a steroid used for the prophylactic treatment of asthma. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation and allergies.

How it works: Fluticasone Furoate is a synthetic, fluorinated corticosteroid with potent vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory activity, but weak HPA inhibitory effect when applied topically.

Important Information: This inhalation is not indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm. Use at the same time every day and do not use more than once every 24 hours.

  • Asthma prophylaxis: Once-daily maintenance treatment as prophylactic therapy in patients aged 5 years and older.

Pharmacology

Fluticasone Furoate is a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity. It utilises a fluorocarbothioate ester linkage that provides potent vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory activity, but weak HPA inhibitory effect when applied topically.

Mechanism of action

Fluticasone Furoate binds to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibits the migration of inflammatory mediators and cells, resulting in reduced lung inflammation and asthma control.

Dosage

Adults and Adolescents Aged 12 Years and Older:

  • Starting dose: 100 mcg once daily.
  • May increase to 200 mcg after 2 weeks if no response.
  • Maximum: 200 mcg/day.

Pediatric Patients Aged 5 to 11 Years:

  • 50 mcg once daily.

Hepatic Impairment:

  • Mild: No dosage adjustment required.
  • Moderate-to-severe: Caution advised.

Administration

Inhalation capsule - administer as 1 inhalation once daily. Use at the same time every day. Do not use more than once every 24 hours.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Precautions & warnings

Precautions:

  • Do not use in acute asthma attacks (fast-acting bronchodilator needed).
  • Seek medical advice if asthma symptoms remain uncontrolled or worsen.
  • Paradoxical bronchospasm may occur - use bronchodilator immediately and discontinue.
  • Avoid in patients with severe allergy to milk protein.
