Description

Pharmacology

Menthol activates TRPM-8 receptors to produce a cooling sensation and open airways; Eucalyptus oil contains eucalyptol which dilates airways and helps clear phlegm.

Mechanism of action

Opens airways and clears phlegm to ease breathing.

Dosage

Adults, Elderly & Children over 3 months:

  • Add 5 mL of suspension to 500-600 mL of hot (not boiling) water
  • Inhale the steam through the mouth and nose
  • Repeat after 4 hours if required

  • For external use only
  • Shake well before use
  • Add to hot water and inhale steam
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mouth

Side effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions (allergic rhinitis, itching, swelling, contact dermatitis)
  • Reports of apnea and instant collapse in infants following local application to nostrils

Symptoms of poisoning: epigastric burning, abdominal pain, CNS depression, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, ataxia, coma; gastric lavage and saline laxatives; anticonvulsants for seizures.

Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture; keep out of reach of children.
