Description

Salicylic Acid + Clobetasol Propionate is a combination ointment. Clobetasol Propionate is a high-potency corticosteroid that decreases inflammation by stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes, inhibiting macrophage accumulation, and reducing capillary permeability. Salicylic Acid acts as a keratolytic agent, softening and destroying the stratum corneum and removing dead skin.

Pharmacological class

Clobetasol Propionate + Salicylic Acid

Pharmacology

Clobetasol Propionate stabilizes leukocyte lysosomal membranes, inhibits inflammatory cell accumulation, reduces capillary permeability and edema, and decreases fibroblast proliferation. Salicylic Acid increases endogenous hydration to soften and destroy the stratum corneum and remove dead skin.

Mechanism of action

Reduces inflammation and removes dead skin to treat dermatological conditions.

Dosage

Adult:

  • Apply a thin layer to affected areas twice daily with gentle massage
  • Reduce frequency once control is achieved
  • Do not use for more than 2 consecutive weeks (max 50 gm/week)
  • Do not use with occlusive dressings
Administration
  • Apply a thin layer to affected skin and massage gently
  • Avoid contact with eyes
  • Use as directed by a physician
Missed dose

If you miss an application, apply at the next scheduled time.

Side effects

Side Effects:

  • Hypercortisolism with prolonged or extensive use
  • Local atrophy
  • Skin dryness and irritation
  • Allergic reactions

  • Primary bacterial or fungal skin infections (without anti-infective)
  • Primary viral skin infections (herpes simplex, vaccinia, varicella)
  • Tuberculous skin lesions
  • Dermatoses in children under 1 year
Drug interactions
  • Avoid concomitant use with other topical medicines (salicylic acid may increase absorption)
