Salicylic Acid + Clobetasol Propionate is a topical ointment used for psoriasis, chronic atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, lichen planus, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis. It combines a high-potency corticosteroid with a keratolytic agent.
Indications
- Psoriasis
- Chronic atopic dermatitis
- Neurodermatitis (lichen simplex chronicus)
- Lichen planus
- Eczema (nummular eczema, hand eczema)
- Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp
- Ichthyosis vulgaris
Dosage
Adult:
- Apply a thin layer to affected areas twice daily with gentle massage
- Reduce frequency once control is achieved
- Do not use for more than 2 consecutive weeks (max 50 gm/week)
- Do not use with occlusive dressings
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Hypercortisolism with prolonged or extensive use
- Local atrophy
- Skin dryness and irritation
- Allergic reactions
Precautions & warnings
- Caution when using near the eyes
- Prolonged use on large areas may cause adrenal suppression
- Infected lesions require antimicrobial therapy
- Caution in psoriasis (rebound relapses, generalized pustular psoriasis)
- Not recommended for children under 12 years; contraindicated under 1 year
