Spinosad Topical Suspension is a scabicide and pediculicide used for the topical treatment of scabies infestations (4 years and older) and head lice infestations (6 months and older).
Description
Spinosad causes neuronal excitation in insects. After periods of hyperexcitation, lice and mites become paralyzed and die. When applied topically, spinosad shows minimal absorption into the bloodstream, remaining localized to the treated area on the skin surface.

Pharmacology
Spinosad causes neuronal excitation in insects, leading to paralysis and death after hyperexcitation. Topical application results in minimal systemic absorption, so systemic side effects are very low. The drug acts locally on the skin surface and is eliminated through washing.

Dosage
Scabies Treatment:
- Rub thoroughly into the entire body from neck down to soles of feet
- Apply to balding scalp, hairline, temples, and forehead
- Allow 10 minutes for drying before dressing
- Avoid bathing for at least 6 hours after application
Head Lice Treatment:
- Apply thoroughly to scalp and dry hair
- Rinse with warm water after 10 minutes
- Repeat after 7 days if live lice are observed
Administration
- Shake well before use
- For external use only; rinse eyes if contact occurs
Missed dose
If you miss an application, apply at the next scheduled time.
Side effects
Common Side Effects (>1%):
- Scabies: Application site irritation, dry skin
- Lice: Application site erythema, ocular erythema

- Contains benzyl alcohol; not approved for use in neonates and infants below 6 months
- Caution in pregnancy and lactation (cleanse breast with soap and water before breastfeeding)
