Pharmacology
Tolperisone is a centrally acting muscle relaxant. It works on the centres in the brain and spinal cord to relieve muscle stiffness or spasm without reduction in strength.
Mechanism of action
Acts on the brain and spinal cord centres to relieve muscle stiffness or spasm without reducing strength.
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Oral: 50-150 mg three times daily
- Intramuscular: One ampoule twice daily; inject slowly
Child Dose (Oral):
- <6 years: 5 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses
- 6-14 years: 2-4 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses
Administration
- Take with food
- Swallow whole; do not chew, crush or break
- Take at the same time each day
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible; if almost time for next dose, skip it; do not double the dose.

- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Nausea
Precautions & warnings
- May decrease alertness; do not drive
- Avoid alcohol as it may cause excessive drowsiness
- Do not stop suddenly after long-term use
