Description
Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine is a clear, colorless sterile solution for intramuscular use containing the Vi polysaccharide extracted from Salmonella typhi Ty2 strain.

Pharmacology
Typhoid Polysaccharide Vaccine contains the Vi polysaccharide extracted from Salmonella typhi Ty2 strain. It protects against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi.
Mechanism of action
Provides active immunity against Salmonella typhi.
Dosage
Adult and Child (2 years and older) Dose (IM):
- Single 0.5 mL dose
- Subjects who remain at risk should be given a single booster dose with an interval of not more than 3 years
Administration
- For intramuscular injection only
- Do not inject intravenously
- For adults: in the deltoid; for children: in the deltoid or vastus lateralis
- Do not inject into the gluteal areas where there may be a nerve trunk
- Administer with caution to subjects with thrombocytopenia or bleeding disorders
- Apply firm pressure to the site (without rubbing) for at least two minutes after injection

Precautions & warnings
- Not for treatment of typhoid fever
- Vaccination may not provide full protection; travellers should take all necessary precautions to avoid contact or ingestion of potentially contaminated food or water sources
- Caution in patients with history of bleeding disorders, patients on anticoagulant treatment, or severely immunocompromised patients
- Postpone administration in subjects suffering from acute severe febrile illness
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine
- Subjects having shown signs of hypersensitivity after previous Typhoid vaccine administration
- Immunosuppressive treatment or immunodeficiency (adequate response may not be achieved)
- Acute severe febrile illness
Drug interactions
- Concurrent use with antibiotics or immunoglobulins may reduce the efficacy of typhoid vaccine
- Mefloquine may increase the efficacy of typhoid vaccine
- May reduce the diagnostic effect of tuberculin tests
- Concurrent use with immunosuppressants may increase the adverse effects of live vaccines (potentially fatal)

Food interactions are not significant.
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Effect on fetal development or reproduction capacity has not been evaluated; use only when there is a high risk of infection.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Not known if excreted in human milk; use caution.

Storage conditions
Store at +2°C to +8°C. Transportation should also be at +2°C to +8°C. Do not freeze. Discard vaccine if frozen. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
