Iron + Folic acid + Vitamin B Complex + Vitamin C + Zinc capsule is used for vitamin/mineral deficiency during pregnancy and lactation, and for treatment and prophylaxis of Zinc, Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin C deficiency.

Indications
  • Vitamin/mineral deficiency (during pregnancy and lactation)
  • Zinc, Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin C deficiency
Pharmacology

Iron is an essential component in hemoglobin formation; adequate amounts are necessary for effective erythropoiesis. Folic acid is required for nucleoprotein synthesis and maintenance of normal erythropoiesis. Zinc is a cofactor in over 100 enzymes, plays a role in DNA synthesis, and supports a healthy immune system. Vitamin C is necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair. Vitamin B complex plays a role in synthesis and maintenance of coenzyme A and is necessary for lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • One capsule daily
  • In more severe cases: 2 capsules a day

Child Dose: No specific data; use as directed by physician

Side effects

Side Effects:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Allergic sensitization (rare)
  • Stools may turn black
Use in pregnancy

Use in Pregnancy: Recommended during pregnancy and lactation; helps prevent neural tube defects.

Precautions & warnings

Precautions:

  • Caution in patients who may develop iron overload (hemochromatosis, haemolytic anemia or red cell aplasia)
  • Iron chelates with tetracycline and absorption may be impaired
  • Folic acid may mask symptoms of pernicious anemia
  • Daily vitamin requirements must be calculated to avoid over dosage and toxic effects
Overdose effects

Overdose: Accidental overdose of iron is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6; high doses may cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting, acidosis, darkened stools, abdominal pain; Riboflavin is completely safe; >200 mg Pyridoxine long-term may cause sensory neuropathy; Zinc 150-450 mg/day may cause low copper status and reduced immune function.
