Allystrenol is a synthetic progestin used to prevent recurrent miscarriage and premature labor. It relaxes uterine muscles and supports fetal development.
Indications
Recurrent miscarriage (2 or more times); Threatened abortion; Threatened premature labor; Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR).
Dosage
Adults:
- IUGR: 5 mg 3 times daily for at least 2 months (reduce dose if symptoms improve)
- Threatened abortion: 5 mg 3 times daily until symptoms disappear
- Habitual abortion: 5-10 mg/day (1-2 tablets) as soon as pregnancy is diagnosed, continue for at least 1 month after the critical period
- Threatened premature delivery: Up to 40 mg daily as per physician's advice
Side effects
Common side effects: Edema (swelling), bloating, anxiety, irritation, depression, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, headache, breast changes
Precautions & warnings
- Discontinue after delivery (may affect the baby)
- Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor
- Caution while driving (may cause dizziness)
- Caution in diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, cardiac or renal dysfunction
