Hydrocortisone + Lidocaine cream is used for relief of itching, pain, soreness and discomfort due to hemorrhoids, anal fissures, pruritus ani and similar conditions of the anal area.
Indications
- Hemorrhoids
- Anal fissures
- Pruritus ani
- Similar conditions of the anal area
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Hemorrhoids, Anal fissures, Pruritus ani: Apply BID to areas of discomfort and anal opening
- Applicator tip should be gently inserted into the anal area (areas of discomfort and anal opening)
- Applicator and tube should not completely insert in the anus or rectum
Child Dose: Safety and efficacy not established
Side effects
Rare Side Effects:
- Rectal bleeding
- Swelling of the skin
- Adrenal suppression
- Anaphylaxis
- Angioedema
- Cushing syndrome
- Hirsutism
- Acne
- Cutaneous and subcutaneous atrophy
- Dry scaly skin
- Urticaria
During application: Transient stinging or burning, or erythema
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- If extensive areas are treated, possibility of systemic absorption exists
- Systemic absorption of topical steroids may cause hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression
- If irritation or sensitivity occurs or infection appears, discontinue use
- Caution with impaired hepatic function and patients taking class I antiarrhythmics
- Avoid using for prolonged periods or with occlusive dressings
