Cyproheptadine HCI is an antihistamine used in the treatment of various allergic conditions and as an appetite stimulant.
Indications
- Allergic conditions (itching, swelling, rashes)
- Appetite stimulant
- Treatment and prophylaxis of migraine and other vascular headaches
Dosage
Adult - Allergic conditions: Initially: 4 mg three times daily, adjusted as necessary. Usual: 12-16 mg daily in 3-4 divided doses. Max: 32 mg/day.
Adult - Migraine prophylaxis: 4 mg may be repeated after 30 min. Not to exceed 8 mg within a 4- to 6-hour period. Maintenance: 4 mg every 4-6 hours.
Child - Allergic conditions (2-6 yr): 2 mg twice or three times daily. Max: 12 mg daily.
Child - Allergic conditions (7-14 yr): 4 mg twice or three times daily. Max: 16 mg daily.
Child - Migraine prophylaxis (3 years & adolescents): 0.2-0.4 mg/kg/day PO divided BID; not to exceed 0.5 mg/kg/day.
