Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • Bronchodilation: Initially 1-2 mg twice daily; increase to 2 mg three times daily if necessary
  • Tablets: Start 1 mg twice daily; may increase to 2 mg twice daily after 7-10 days; may increase to 6 mg/day if necessary

Child Dose (Oral):

  • 1-6 years: 0.25-0.5 mg twice daily
  • 6-10 years: 0.5-1 mg twice daily
  • 10-14 years: 1-1.5 mg twice daily
  • Syrup: 40-80 mcg/kg/day in two divided doses

Precautions & warnings
  • Unknown if alters ability to drive; caution advised
  • Use long-term only in patients whose asthma cannot be adequately controlled on controller medications alone
  • Use with caution in diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, and seizure disorders
  • Caution in renal failure; kidney is principal route of elimination
  • Dosage may require individualization in impaired liver function
  • Administer cautiously to cardiac patients, especially those with arrhythmias, coronary insufficiency, or myocardial ischemia
