Bromfenac Sodium Eye Prep is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of postoperative eye pain and inflammation in patients who have undergone cataract surgery. It works by stopping the release of certain natural substances in the eye that are responsible for pain and inflammation.
Indications
- Postoperative inflammation and ocular pain in patients who have undergone cataract extraction
Dosage
Adults (Postoperative inflammation):
0.07% or 0.09% solution: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, starting 1 day before cataract surgery, continuing on the day of surgery, and through the first 14 days of the postoperative period.
Alternatively (0.09% solution): 1 drop twice daily (BID), beginning 24 hours after cataract surgery and continuing through the first 14 days of the postoperative period.
Prior to first use: If priming is required, follow the manufacturer's instructions for the dropper bottle.
Side effects
Common side effects:
Abnormal sensation in eye, conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation (including burning/stinging), eye pain, eye pruritus (itching), eye redness, headache, iritis.
Do not use after 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
Precautions & warnings
- All topical NSAIDs may slow or delay healing. Concomitant use with topical corticosteroids may increase the potential for healing problems.
- Use with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies or who are receiving medications that may prolong bleeding time.
- May cause short-term blurring of vision after use; do not drive until vision is clear.
- Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 minutes; notify your doctor if it persists longer.
- Caution during pregnancy and lactation.
