Indications
Prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency, adjunctive therapy in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, meeting calcium and vitamin needs during pregnancy and lactation, prevention of calcium and vitamin D deficiency in elderly, supportive therapy in cold and flu, postmenopausal syndrome and premenstrual symptoms
Dosage
Adults and adolescents: 1 tablet daily. Children: 1/2 tablet daily. Or as directed by the physician.
Side effects
Common side effects: Gastrointestinal discomfort (constipation, flatulence, nausea, gastric pain, diarrhea), skin rash (rare), allergic reactions, irregular heartbeat, vomiting, loss of appetite, dry mouth, drowsiness. Serious side effects (rare): Hypercalcemia (high blood calcium).
Precautions & warnings
Use with caution in patients with sarcoidosis, renal or cardiac disease and those receiving cardiac glycosides. Ensure adequate fluid intake in patients with history of stone formation. Discontinuation usually normalizes hypercalcemia. Do not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 1000 IU vitamin D daily during third trimester of pregnancy.
