Perindopril Erbumine is an ACE inhibitor used for the treatment of high blood pressure, heart failure, and may be prescribed after a heart attack. It lowers the chances of having a heart attack or stroke and relaxes blood vessels so that blood flows more smoothly.
Indications
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Prevention of heart attack and stroke
- Heart failure
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Hypertension: 4-8 mg once daily or divided q12hr; max 16 mg/day
- Stable CAD: 4 mg once daily for 2 weeks, then increase to 8 mg/day
- Heart failure: 2 mg once daily initially, max 8-16 mg/day
- Elderly: Initially 2 mg once daily; may increase to max 8 mg
- Renal impairment: CrCl <15 mL/min: 2 mg on dialysis days; 15-30: 2 mg on alternate days; 30-60: 2 mg
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Decreased blood pressure
- Cough
- Increased potassium level in blood
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Dizziness
Precautions & warnings
- May affect driving ability; do not drive if dizziness or weakness occurs
- May cause dizziness for the first few days; rise slowly from sitting or lying position
- Taking at bedtime may help avoid daytime dizziness
- Inform doctor if cough or throat irritation persists
- Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods
- Do not use during pregnancy and lactation
