Crotamiton 10% topical is an antipruritic and scabicide medicine used for the treatment of scabies and relief of itching and skin irritation.
Indications
- Scabies
- Pruritus (itching)
- Skin irritation
Dosage
Adult Dose (Scabies): Wash thoroughly and scrub away loose scales, then dry; apply thin layer and massage onto skin of entire body from neck to toes; repeat in 24 hours; bath 48 hours after final application; may repeat treatment after 7-10 days if live mites present.
Adult Dose (Pruritic skin disorders): Apply a 10% cream/lotion 2-3 times daily onto the skin.
Pediatric Dose (<3 years): Apply a 10% cream/lotion onto the skin once daily.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Erythematous rash
- Itching
- Dry skin
- Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation)
Precautions & warnings
- For external use only. Do not apply to the eye, mouth, other mucous membranes or on excoriated skin.
- Scabies is highly contagious; other family members should also use it preventively.
- Not recommended during the first three months of pregnancy.
- Nursing mothers should avoid applying it in the area of the nipples.
