Crotamiton 10% topical is an antipruritic and scabicide medicine used for the treatment of scabies and relief of itching and skin irritation.

Pharmacology
Crotamiton has scabicidal and antipruritic action against Sarcoptes scabiei. It is an effective pediculocide as well. Crotamiton affects the nervous system of the pests, leading to paralysis and death.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Scabies): Wash thoroughly and scrub away loose scales, then dry; apply thin layer and massage onto skin of entire body from neck to toes; repeat in 24 hours; bath 48 hours after final application; may repeat treatment after 7-10 days if live mites present.
Adult Dose (Pruritic skin disorders): Apply a 10% cream/lotion 2-3 times daily onto the skin.
Pediatric Dose (<3 years): Apply a 10% cream/lotion onto the skin once daily.

- Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation)
Use in pregnancy

Precautions & warnings
- For external use only. Do not apply to the eye, mouth, other mucous membranes or on excoriated skin.
- Scabies is highly contagious; other family members should also use it preventively.
- Not recommended during the first three months of pregnancy.
- Nursing mothers should avoid applying it in the area of the nipples.
Overdose effects
Information on Crotamiton 10% topical overdosage is not available. Excessive application may cause local adverse reactions.
