Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% topical belongs to a group of medicines called steroids. It is used to treat various skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema, and allergies. It works by reducing swelling, redness, and itchiness of the skin and prevents further irritation. Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% topical is only meant for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. You should normally wash and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine. Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. Rinse it off with plenty of water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor. Using of the medicine may cause skin thinning or burning sensation, irritation, redness and swelling at the site of application. These are temporary and usually resolve with time. However, if they persist or worsen, let your doctor know. The medicine is not recommended to be used in children. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctors before using this medicine. Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% topical is a steroid. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

Clobetasol is a very potent corticosteroid used in short-term treatment of various inflammatory skin conditions. Corticosteroids decrease inflammation by stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes, preventing release of destructive acid hydrolases from leukocytes; inhibiting macrophage accumulation in inflamed areas; reducing leukocyte adhesion to capillary endothelium; reducing capillary wall permeability and edema formation; decreasing complement components; antagonizing histamine activity and release of kinin from substrates; and reducing fibroblast proliferation, collagen deposition, and subsequent scar tissue formation.

Adult Dose: Corticosteroid-responsive Dermatoses Cream: Apply thin layer to affected areas q12hr and rub in gently and completely; not to exceed 50 g/week Scalp Psoriasis Shampoo: Apply thin film to dry scalp qDay; leave in place for 15 min; add water, lather, and then rinse thoroughly Moderate to Severe Plaque-type Psoriasis Cream/lotion: Apply to affected area in scalp q12hr for up to 2 weeks if area is less than 10% of the body surface area; not to exceed 50 g/week Child Dose: 12 years Corticosteroid-responsive Dermatoses Cream: Apply thin layer to affected areas q12hr and rub in gently and completely; not to exceed 50 g/week Scalp Psoriasis Shampoo: Apply thin film to dry scalp qDay; leave in place for 15 min; add water, lather, and then rinse thoroughly Moderate to Severe Plaque-type Psoriasis Cream/lotion: Apply to affected area in scalp q12hr for up to 2 weeks if area is less than 10% of the body surface area; not to exceed 50 g/week

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

It should be applied to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Don't use it more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Don't cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If you think the area of skin you are treating has become infected you should stop using Clobetasol Propionate 0.05% topical and consult your doctor. Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after four weeks of treatment. Do not use it for more than 4 consecutive weeks at a time.

Childn <12 yrs. Long-term treatment of ulcerative conditions, rosacea, pruritus; It is contraindicated in rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, primary cutaneous viral infections (eg. herpes simplex, chickenpox), otitis externa with a perforated eardrum, hypersensitivity to the preparations. Scalp application is contraindicated in infection of the scalp.

Increased systemic exposure w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors (eg ritonavir & itraconazole).
