• Iron Deficiency Anemia: Used for treatment and prophylaxis of iron deficiency anemia.
• Anemia due to Chronic Kidney Disease: Used for treatment of anemia associated with CKD.

Ferrous ascorbate is a synthetic molecule of ascorbic acid and iron. Ferrous ascorbate is a stable complex of iron and ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid plays an important role in movement of plasma iron to storage depots in tissues. Ascorbate is a reducing agent and prevents oxidation. Thus maintains iron in highly soluble ferrous form.

Adult Dose: One capsule daily; in more severe cases, 2 capsules a day may be required.

Common Side Effects:

• Vomiting
• Dark colored stool
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness)

Use in Pregnancy: Ferrous Ascorbate is generally considered safe during pregnancy; animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects.

Precautions:

• It is not known whether Ferrous Ascorbate alters the ability to drive; do not drive if you experience any symptoms.
• Take with meals to reduce gastric discomfort.
• Inform your doctor about any medications for infections (antibiotics).
• Tell your doctor if you have peptic ulcer or long-term inflammation of the intestine.
• Seek immediate medical attention if you experience abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stools, black stools, vomiting of blood, low blood pressure, increased heart rate, dehydration, drowsiness, pale appearance, cyanosis, lack of vigor or fits.

Overdose: Symptoms of acute iron overdosage: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tarry stools, melena, hematemesis, hypotension, tachycardia, metabolic acidosis, hyperglycemia, dehydration, drowsiness, pallor, cyanosis, lassitude, seizures, shock and coma.

Storage: Keep below 30 degree C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
