Indications
  • General Anaesthesia: Used for induction of anaesthesia in surgical procedures.
Dosage

Adult Dose (IV):

  • General Anesthesia Induction: 0.3-0.6 mg/kg IVP over 30-60 sec.

Child Dose (>=10 years):

  • General Anesthesia Induction: 0.3-0.6 mg/kg IVP over 30-60 sec.

  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Fever
  • Muscle pain
Precautions & warnings

Precautions:

  • Etomidate may affect your ability to drive; may cause sleepiness and impair ability to think or react.
  • Used only in a hospital setting.
  • Inform doctor if you are pregnant or suffering from liver disease.
  • Safe to use in kidney disease.
  • Safe for breastfeeding mothers (breastfeeding can be resumed after recovery from anesthesia).
