Trifluridine 1% Eye prep is indicated for the treatment of primary keratoconjunctivitis and recurrent epithelial keratitis due to herpes simplex virus, type 1 and 2.
Indications
- Primary keratoconjunctivitis due to herpes simplex virus
- Recurrent epithelial keratitis due to herpes simplex virus
Dosage
Adult and Child (>6 years) Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Instill 1 drop into affected eye every 2 hours; max 9 drops daily until complete re-epithelialisation
- After re-epithelialisation: 1 drop every 4 hours (min 5 drops daily) for 7 days
- Treatment should not exceed 21 days
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Transient burning or stinging upon instillation
- Irritation
- Hyperemia
- Palpebral oedema
- Dry eye
- Superficial punctate keratopathy
- Epithelial keratopathy
- Hypersensitivity reaction
- Increased intraocular pressure
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in pregnancy
- Not recommended for children under 6 years
- Use under close supervision of an ophthalmologist
- Avoid continuous administration for more than 21 days (risk of ocular toxicity)
