Dexamethasone + Gatifloxacin is an eye drop used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections. It stops the growth of bacteria and helps in relieving redness, itching and swelling.
Indications
- Steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions with bacterial involvement
- Blepharitis, scleritis, episcleritis, iritis, cyclitis, iridocyclitis
- Choroiditis, optic neuritis, chronic anterior uveitis
- Disciform and interstitial keratitis, allergic corneal marginal ulcers
- Corneal injury from chemical, radiation or thermal burns
Dosage
Adult: Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 3 to 4 times daily.
Side effects
Gatifloxacin-related: Chemosis, redness, dry eye, itching, eyelid swelling, reduced visual acuity.
Dexamethasone-related: Elevation of intraocular pressure, delayed wound healing, posterior subcapsular cataract formation.
Precautions & warnings
If used for 10 days or more, intraocular pressure should be monitored routinely. Prolonged steroid use may result in glaucoma or other ocular damage. May exacerbate viral infections. Use cautiously in patients with history of herpes simplex.
