Chlorhexidine Gluconate + Isopropyl Alcohol Hand Rub is a rapid acting wide spectrum microbicidal preparation used for disinfecting hands of doctors, nurses and personnel, disinfecting surgical instruments, disinfecting skin prior to surgery, and disinfecting wound dressings.

Pharmacology

At physiologic pH, chlorhexidine salts dissociate and release the positively charged chlorhexidine cation. The bactericidal effect is a result of the binding of this cationic molecule to negatively charged bacterial cell walls. At low concentrations of chlorhexidine, this results in a bacteriostatic effect; at high concentrations, membrane disruption results in cell death. Isopropyl alcohol evaporates quickly and aids in disinfection by denaturing bacterial proteins.

Dosage

Hand disinfection: Take approximately 3 ml on hand and scrub the entire surface of both hands until dry.

Surgical instrument disinfection: Take approximately 5 ml in a clean pot and immerse instruments for 2 minutes.

Skin disinfection (pre-surgery): Take approximately 3 ml with cotton and scrub on the skin until dry.

Wound/wound dressing disinfection: Take approximately 3 ml with cotton and scrub on the wound until dry.

Precautions & warnings
  • Avoid contact with brain, meninges, middle ear or sensitive tissues and eyes.
  • Do not inject or use in body cavities.
  • Incompatible with soaps and other anionic agents.
  • For external use only.
