At a glance
Imeglimin Hydrochloride is used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus as a monotherapy adjunct to diet and exercise.
Indications
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (as monotherapy adjunct to diet and exercise)
Pharmacology
Imeglimin's mechanism involves dual effects: (a) amplification of glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and preservation of β-cell mass; and (b) enhanced insulin action, including inhibition of hepatic glucose output and improvement in insulin signalling in liver and skeletal muscle. At a cellular level, it corrects mitochondrial dysfunction, rebalances respiratory chain activity (partial inhibition of Complex I and correction of Complex III activity), reduces reactive oxygen species formation, and prevents mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening.
