Lidocaine (Lignocaine) Hydrochloride 2%, 10% is a local anesthetic used to temporarily numb certain areas of the body. It is used as an anesthetic lubricant for insertion of instruments in medical procedures and for treatment of painful inflammation of the urethra and bladder.
Indications
- Local anesthesia (numb tissues in a specific area)
- Mouth and throat surface anesthesia
- Urethral surface anesthesia
- Relief of skin irritation and itching
- Haemorrhoids and perianal pain
- Premature ejaculation
Dosage
Topical as Gel/Jelly:
- Mouth/throat pain (2%): 300 mg rinse; every 3 hours; max 2.4 g/day
- Anesthetic lubricant for intubation: Apply moderate amount to tube surface; max 600 mg/12 hr
- Urethral anesthesia (Males): Slowly instill 15 mL (300 mg); max 30 mL (600 mg)
- Skin irritation: Apply to affected area TID/QID
- Haemorrhoids/Perianal: Apply or insert rectally up to 6 times daily

Common Side Effects:
- Allergic reaction
- Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching, and redness)
Precautions & warnings
- Do not apply to broken or infected skin
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and nose
- Do not cover with airtight dressings (risk of side effects)
- Consult doctor if no improvement in 2-4 weeks
- Inform doctor if you have liver disease or heart rhythm problems
