Amitriptyline + Chlordiazepoxide is a combination medicine used for the treatment of moderate to severe depression associated with moderate to severe anxiety. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant and Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine that reduces anxiety.
Indications
Moderate to severe depression associated with moderate to severe anxiety; insomnia, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, agitation, psychic and somatic anxiety, suicidal ideation, anorexia.
Dosage
Initial dose: 3-4 tablets daily in divided doses. The larger portion of the total daily dose may be taken at bedtime. In some patients, a single dose at bedtime may be sufficient. Maintenance: Reduce to the smallest effective dose.
Side effects
Common side effects: Drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, bloating, fatigue, weakness, restlessness, lethargy, weight gain, confusion, difficulty in urination, orthostatic hypotension, increased heart rate, uncoordinated movements, memory impairment. Rare: Vivid dreams, impotence, tremor, nasal congestion.
Precautions & warnings
Do not stop suddenly without consulting your doctor (withdrawal symptoms may occur). Caution while driving (drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision). Avoid alcohol completely. Caution in liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Caution in patients with history of seizures. Inform doctor if you experience suicidal thoughts or unusual mood changes. Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
